The third installment of the Astro Bot series started in 2018. This time it's a full game for the PS5 console, offering over 80 levels scattered across 6 galaxies. We play as the titular robot, exploring, solving puzzles and defeating enemies.
Astro Bot is the third installment of the 3D platformer series launched in 2018. The game was developed by Team Asobi, operating under the wings of Sony Interactive Entertainment, which delivered both the first part of the series, the game titled Astro's Playroom, which was a kind of interactive presentation of the capabilities of the PS5 console and its DualSense controller.
Gameplay
In Astro Bot we view the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). During the game we play the role of the titular robot, whose searches for missing crew in over 80 levels scattered across 6 galaxies. During the adventure, our character visits various locations, such as lush forests, sandy beaches, and volcanic wastelands, but also more imaginative places like a giant hourglass.
While traversing them, the robot jumps on platforms and avoids numerous traps and terrain obstacles. From time to time we can also control our ship named Dual Speeder. We also have to face opponents on a regular basis, of which there are over 70 types waiting to be defeated. Among them, powerful bosses guarding the exits from individual galaxies stand out, such as the murderous Lady Venomara, also known as the queen of cobras. In addition to the standard stages, there are also levels created to test our skills and reflexes.
Astro has gained over 15 new skills, which have been prepared in such a way as to take advantage of the capabilities of the DualSense controller. We can rely on things like the robotic dog Barkster that can jump to enemies and break some objects, special gloves that allow us to strike from a long distance, or a sponge, which after absorbing water from the environment grows to enormous sizes, making it a powerful weapon.

Smash Jump: 9 / 10 by Sam Flanagan
Astro Bot is nothing short of a delight. It takes everything that made that small tech demo a hit and builds on its best parts while improving on the shortcomings. There are a few frustrating moments and it isn’t flawless, but there is more than enough to keep you invested from start to finish. PlayStation has finally got a killer mascot on its hands, one that I hope it doesn’t forget about anytime soon. If you’re looking for a fun and cute adventure filled with challenging levels, addictive collectibles, and a plethora of PlayStation references, Astro Bot is the game for you.
God is a Geek: 10 / 10 by Lyle Pendle
Astro Bot is a love letter to video games that sets a new standard in 3D platforming, with ridiculously creative stages and gorgeous visuals.
NookGaming: 9 / 10 by Rob MacIntosh
Astro Bot is a game with an incredible amount of love put into it. It’s not quite at the level of a game that makes a PlayStation 5 worth owning all by itself, and it’s not especially long, but it’s the kind of game that any console would gladly feature in its library as a key title. It’s a game with a fair amount of nostalgia behind it, both in of its wide array of cameos and it being a collectathon, but it stands on its own as a triumphant adventure of fun and charm in its own right. My playthrough had me smiling at so many points and served as a great reminder of all the hours of joy that I’ve had with PlayStation games over the years.
