A third persion action-adventure game from MercurySteam studio - authors of Metroid Dread and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. In Blades of Fire we can forge our own weapons and then use them in battle. The game features a duo of main characters and spectacular combat. We explore the dark fantasy land, trying to stop its evil female ruler Nerea.
Blades of Fire is an action-adventure game in which forging our own weapon plays a major role. The game was developed by MercurySteam studio, which has in its portfolio games like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow sub-series, as well as Metroid Dread.
Story
Blades of Fire transports us to a fantasy kingdom, where the new ruler - Nerea - has cast a spell turning steel into stone, so that only her army could wield this divine metal.
However, Aran de Lira, the eldest descendant of the royal guard and the last hero capable of wielding steel, proved to be resistant to this spell. In the company of a young scholar Adso, who knows the ancient language of blacksmiths, the protagonist travels the world, trying to reach the queen herself and restore balance in his homeland.
On the way, the duo learns more secrets of steel processing, which gives Aran access to increasingly powerful weapons.
Gameplay
In Blades of Fire the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). The adventure leads us through dense forest thickets, lavish palaces resembling labyrinths, or powerful fortresses.
Combat
We often engage in battles with opponents, such as the queen's guards, the undead, and other monsters. Enemies were differentiated in of fighting style, equipment, and weaknesses. The battles themselves are dynamic, and the implemented system allows us to cut, stab, and smash specific parts of their bodies.
Weapons and crafting
On the battlefield, we wield weapons forged by ourselves in the forge. The crafting system is based on scrolls and materials that we collect as we progress. Aran makes use of both swords and hammers or axes, which are differentiated in of weight, length, durability, penetration, and edge quality.
Comrade in arms
The proper selection of weapons for the challenges ahead of us can significantly contribute to achieving victories. The assistance from Adso, who shares with us his observations about the strengths and weaknesses of enemies, recording them in a special chronicle, also remains significant.

Blades of Fire review: A solid average, but nothing more
Blades of Fire stands out with its engaging combat system and weapon customization. Unfortunately, the game can be irritating and even boring at times, which makes it just average.

Blades of Fire
Blades of Fire is a pretty decent, average game. It looks good graphically and works just as well. Unfortunately, it can be irritating and even boring at times.

ZTGD: 8.5 / 10 by Terrence Johnson
Blades of Fire is a welcome return to MercurySteam and I think it’s one that is going to be a sleeper hit. The way the story unfolds and pushes the player to explore the environment that is littered with hidden fights and upgrades that will help Aran become stronger.
Kakuchopurei: 60 / 100 by Jonathan Toyad
MercurySteam has a lot going for with Blades of Fire despite its drawn-out story and path that does wear out its welcome over time. While not exactly the most engrossing of all action RPGs with Dark Souls DNA, Blades of Fire is still worthy of your time due to its approach to weapons-crafting and nuances to its combat system.
