A refreshed and expanded version of a third-person action adventure game from 2019, created by Sony's Bend Studio. Days Gone Remastered features greatly improved visuals, for haptic and new gameplay modes, including a Permadeath Mode, a Speedrun Mode and a Horde Assault mode.
Days Gone Remastered is a refreshed and enriched with additional content version of the post-apocalyptic open-world action game, originally released in 2019 on PlayStation 4 (and in 2021 on PC). The remaster was developed by the authors of the original, namely the Bend Studio team.
New features in the remaster
Days Gone Remastered enriches the original with new game modes. The developers prepared a Horde Assault mode, where we try to survive as long as possible, repelling the increasingly powerful hordes of zombies and unlocking various rewards as we progress. A permadeath mode was added, where the death of the main character can't be reversed. There is also a speedrun gameplay variant, where we try to complete the game in the shortest possible time.
The authors also focused on the graphic design, increasing the drawing distance of vegetation, improving shadows and lighting, and also enriching the game with the of VRR technology. Two graphic modes have been implemented in the remaster - quality and performance.
Photo mode was improved and now it also features new functions. The remaster also brings previously unavailable accessibility features, as well as the use of unique functions of the DualSense controller.
PC version
Days Gone Remastered wasn't released as a separate product on PC. This is mainly because that the PC release from 2021 already offered substantial upgrades compared to the PS4 original. PC players are still being offered a chance to purchase a paid gain access to the new content from the PS5 remaster.
Story
In Days Gone Remastered we enter a post-apocalyptic world that has been pushed to the brink of extinction by a mysterious virus that turns people into wild creatures reminiscent of zombies (called "freakers" by the survivors). The main character of the game is Deacon St. John. He's a bounty hunter, who is trying to survive in a hostile and dangerous reality, while also trying to cope with the loss of his beloved.
Gameplay
World exploration and quests
In Days Gone Remastered the action is viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP). The game provides us with an open world that we can freely explore. Although Deacon can move on foot, a motorcycle significantly improves the ability to cover larger distances. However, it should be ed that the machine needs fuel, which forces us to not only replenish its level whenever the opportunity arises, but also to save it (for example, by overcoming sloping terrain in neutral gear).
The plot is driven forward by main quests, during which we get to know various characters. From time to time, we also witness flashbacks from Deacon's past. The game also offers side missions and activities, and opponents often hinder us in their implementation.
Enemies, combat and stealth
On our path, we can encounter both hostile people and "freakers", whose strength lies in their numbers. This last one makes itself known especially when we come across one of the hordes, counting even several hundred individuals, moving around the game world in real time. Eliminating groups of hostile creatures requires the use of a considerable amount of ammunition (or ingenuity and ensuring a tactical advantage, using the environment for this purpose).
Given that enemies often have a significant numerical advantage over us, a better solution than engaging in open combat (which can be facilitated by the ability to slow down time) is to act quietly and sneak behind their backs, eliminating them by surprise.
Arsenal, crafting and upgrades
The game provides us with an extensive arsenal including pistols, rifles, shotguns, grenades and explosive charges. Additionally, a crafting system was implemented here, as well as the possibility of upgrading both Deacon's statistics and equipment, as well as his motorcycle.

Rectify Gaming: 8 / 10
Days Gone Remastered is an easy recommendation for newcomers and fans who missed the original, thanks to its improved visuals, performance, and extra modes. For returning players, the $10 upgrade price is reasonable for the enhancements and new content. However, those who bounced off the original’s slow pacing or lackluster story may find the remaster’s improvements insufficient to change their opinion. So does this mean we’re getting Days Gone 2?
Toisto: 3 / 5
Days Gone has never looked better. For the first time, I can appreciate Bend Studio's vision of the apocalypse as it should be seen. From animations to intricate details, this is a gorgeous nightmare from beginning to end. But it's still the same crummy gameplay experience, and that's all that matters.
Nexus Hub: 7.5 / 10 by Ryan Pretorius
Days Gone Remastered might not be the most essential or ambitious remaster we've ever seen, but decent new game modes and quality of life features might entice die-hard fans to give it a second look.
