Might & Magic: Heroes VI - Shades of Darkness is an add-on to a successful turn-based fantasy strategy game released in 2011. This is a standalone expansion, so it does not require the original game to run.
The game expands Might & Magic: Heroes VI with another faction – Dungeons – led by dark elves. These creatures have left Irollan forest to avoid annihilation, and have entered into a blasphemous pact with demons, The Faceless. As a result, they became outcasts living in dungeons, and the entire race became infamous for being insidious assassins.
The expansion offers two campaigns, each consisting of four missions. In the first one, you can take control of the new faction, in the second you command armies of Necropolis, led by a new hero – Lord Vein. Both adventures let you visit previously unexplored regions of Ashan. During the adventure you also learn a lot of new things about the origin of the peoples dwelling in this world.
The main character of the whole expansion is Raelag, a capable manipulator with a demonic past, known from Heroes of Might & Magic V. During the consecutive missions you learn the story of his youth, when he founded the hidden city of the dark elves.
Introducing the new Dungeon faction gives you access to several additional troops and more than ten new heroes. Moreover, you receive four new weapons, eight buildings available on the map, and two sets of artifacts.
