Puyo Puyo Tetris for PC, WiiU etc. is an arcade puzzle game that uses the Tetris formulas. The game was developed by SEGA. Puyo Puyo series was born in Japan in 1991. The brand has received several dozen titles, most of which have never been published in the West. The Tetris series does not need to be introduced to anyone who, even briefly, came into with video games. It enjoys unwavering popularity, thanks to which hundreds of its more or less successful clones keep appearing regularly on all possible hardware platforms. Puyo Puyo Tetris was originally released in Japan in 2014 on Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Mechanics

In addition to the single player campaign, Puyo Puyo Tetris offers multiple gameplay modes designed to play with AI or other people. The title uses classical mechanics of Puyo Puyo where players combine colorful jellies (known as Puyo) with each other. With their help, we have to create figures consisting of at least four blocks of the same color - this will give us points. By using the right strategies, we are able to achieve effective chain reactions, which immediately clear the board.

It is worth noting that unlike Tetris, Puyo Puyo has always focused on the competition between two players - most of the entries in the series allowed us to play against other people. The creators of Puyo Puyo Tetris have used this gameplay model in different ways by combining it with Tetris.

Game modes

Puyo Puyo Tetris offers five basic game modes which are available in single or multiplayer.

VS - people playing Tetris and Puyo Puyo face each other. Four players can take part in the game at the same time. By scoring points, we hurt the opponent and make it harder for them to continue playing, for example by accelerating the rate at which Tetris or Puyo blocks fall.

Fusion - both Puyo and Tetris blocks appear on the level. Due to their weight, the Tetris blocks always land at the very bottom of the board, crushing all the Puyo blocks that stand in their way.

Swap - during the game one of the participants plays Puyo Puyo and the other plays Tetris. From time to time, the boards of both players are changed.

Big Bang - the task of the players is to clear the board with as few moves as possible, using combos.

Party - various types of items and power-ups appear on the board allowing us to gain an advantage or damage opponents.
