AMD Radeon RX 6800 May Bring Back Cryptocurrency Boom
A rumor has surfaced on the web suggesting that the Radeon RX 6800 GPU can offer much better performance in cryptocurrency mining than Nvidia's top-of-the-line GeForce RTX 3090.

A of the Lean QQ social networking website suggests that AMD's new graphics card, the Radeon RX 6800, is up to 50% better than GeForce RTX 3090 when used for cryptocurrency mining (via VideoCadrz). This is quite a surprising rumor, considering the fact that we are talking about a weaker GP model (without the XT suffix).
"The AMD 6800 is finally here. The default mining performance is astonishing - it reached 1.5 times the performance of 3090, or more. I'm guessing that none of you will be able to buy this chipset... what tests do you want to see?," Internet asks.
It is worth noting that not everyone agrees with the above statements - for example, one of the s of Tieba Baidu forum, who supposedly owns a copy of Radeon RX 6800 XT, claims that what Lean is saying is simply not true.
For now we don't know what the facts are like - we have to wait for independent benchmarks (Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT will debut on November 18).
If the rumor turns out to be true, it will mean that AMD's GPU is able to generate up to 5 dollars a day (in case of RTX 3090 it's 3.41 dollars, with data from Nicehash). But that's not all, because we have to the price difference between the two GPUs. The Radeon RX 6800 will cost $579, and the most powerful GeForce is priced at $1499 (both of which are suggested retail prices in the US).
Such a high cost effectiveness of the chipset could cause another frenzy for cryptocurrency mining, and could adversely affect the availability and prices of GPUs. As you know, getting your hands on a GeForce RTX 3000 borders on miracle right now, and many people expect the same to happen with the new Radeons - even without another cryptocurrency fever.
