Arnold Schwarzenegger Has Been Paying Warner Bros. a Dollar for 27 Years to Be Able to Keep a Mythical Item from One of His Worst Rated Movies
Arnold Schwarzenegger took a unique souvenir from the set of one of his worst films, for which he is forced to pay a dollar every year.
It's no news that actors often carry various items off the sets to become mementos of a particular project for them. Arnold Schwarzenegger is therefore no exception, although the conditions under which he managed to obtain a costume from one of his worst rated films are quite unusual.
Despite the fact that Batman & Robin was not well received, gaining the sympathy of neither critics nor viewers, Schwarzenegger took an item from the set that he must have cared a lot about. However, there was no way he could just take it home with him. He was allowed to keep the Mr. Freeze costume, however, on the condition that he pay a dollar every year to rent it from the studio to which it belongs all the time.
The situation with Mr. Freeze's costume was discussed by the film's producer, Peter Macgregor-Scott, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
The actors would like to walk off with pieces, and we have to be very careful that that happens to an absolute minimum. Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted a costume of Mr. Freeze. It went all the way up to the top of the studio. He had to sign a contract, and I think he pays $1 per year to borrow the costume. The lights in those costumes last 9,000 hours. He doesn’t have them on all day long, but he does turn them on quite frequently.
The Batman & Robin movie may have been a failure, but the Mr. Freeze costume that Schwrzenegger cared so much about is already a piece of history, in addition with special meaning for the artist himself, so it's no surprise that he has been paying for the opportunity to keep it in his own home for 27 years. The amount is purely symbolic anyway.
