Baldur’s Gate 3 Caites’ mods are broken after patch 8, but yelling at him won’t fix it
In modders we trust – and Caites definitely deserves better than what’s happening right now. Here’s why he’s not to blame.

Larian really went all out and added 12 new subclasses (one for every class), brought in full cross-play, and finally gave us a Photo Mode. But like with most big patches, things got a little messy with mods. It’s pretty common for them to start causing crashes after an update, and in the worst cases, even corrupt save files. And that’s exactly what happened with Caites’ mods. He’s already on it, working hard to get everything back in shape, but some console players got seriously impatient. Like, over-the-top levels of impatient, to put it politely.
What’s going on with Caites’ mods after BG3 patch 8
Caites is pretty well-known in the modding community. He’s made mods for games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (Sectorial Lockpicking – thank you so much for that one). He’s also done a ton of great work for BG 3, including hotbar tweaks, inventory and tooltip improvements, better loading screens, and auto-hiding widgets. His contributions made such an impact that Larian actually gave him a shoutout in the game’s credits, so yeah, he’s kind of a big deal.
That said, BG3 patch 8 threw a wrench into things and some of his mods started acting up. Most players get it and know he just needs a bit of time to fix things up. But apparently, some console s on mod.io didn’t get the memo and started harassing him over it.
According to Crowbius on the BG3 subreddit, save files made after installing Caites’ mods just refuse to load now. And it’s not a one-off thing, other players are running into the same issue. The problem is, Caites’ mods rely on other creators’ mods too (which is also a pretty standard thing), so fixing everything is just going to take more time. If your game won’t load because of this, try to hang in there and be patient. It might take a couple of weeks to get it all sorted, but Caites definitely does not deserve insults.
