Firaxis Games has unexpectedly announced that another part of the Sid Meier's Civilization series is being developed. The information was conveyed in a post on Twitter.
Unfortunately, other than confirming the start of work, nothing more was said about the new Civilization. The information itself was unlikely to surprise the fans. After all the sixth game in the series was released more than six years ago, and that's how many years separated it from the release of the previous one.
But does Firaxis Games really have nothing more for us? Confirmation of the start (or continuation) of work on the next Civilization pleased fans of the series, nevertheless it may be surprising that it was announced so laconically.
One may hope that we will receive further, more substantive announcements in the near future, but it seems doubtful, since today's announcement makes no mention of this.
Perhaps the announcement was released by chance. For although about Civilization wasn't mentioned much more, the developers had one more important piece of information. The ranks of the studio Marvel's Midnight Suns) departed from the team.
In both cases, no reasons were given for the departure, although news from the developers suggests that the parting took place in a positive atmosphere.
A press release from 2K Games (via Business Wire) reported that Heather Hanzen has been named new head of the studio, and that Firaxis is set to enter a "new era of creation." It was also confirmed that Ed Beach - a veteran of more than 15 years on the Civilization series - will also oversee work on the seventh installment of the series as creative director.
