Sid Meier's Civilization VII still can't recover from its disastrous launch. However, the devs are not giving up. The new update introduces an additional type of maps to the game.

Released in February this year, Sid Meier's Civilization VII turned out to be quite a disappointment. Since then, Firaxis studio has been trying to save the game with updates.

The team has just released the latest one, labeled with the number 1.2.1. The patch brings a new type of map (Pangea Plus) and improves AI, balance, and interface. The player limit in multiplayer has also been increased.

Pangea is a type of map that fans of older installments of the series are well familiar with. Its center is one large continent, which is perfect for people who enjoy gameplay focused on wars.

The next big patch will be released in June

The devs also revealed what the next big update, which is planned for release in June, is set to bring. This patch will offer many new features:

  1. the creators will finally add for huge maps;
  2. full for Steam Workshop will be implemented;
  3. the developers will expand the gameplay configuration options;
  4. new religious beliefs will appear, bonuses for city-states and city specializations;
  5. there will also be no shortage of gameplay balance adjustments and interface improvements.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII was released on February 11th of this year on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5. The game didn't get a warm reception - it currently has only 48% positive reviews on Steam. What's worse, players are clearly dissatisfied with the pace of development. As a result, only 38% of recent reviews praise the latest installment of the series.

Even Civilization V is doing better than Civ VII

Poor reception is reflected in bad (for this series) activity results. Yesterday's record for Civilization 7 was 8717 players having fun at the same time on Steam, while for the sixth part of the series, it was 36,174. What's worse, the popularity of Civ 7 is constantly falling. Right now, even Civilization V is getting more popular (yesterday's record was 16,229 people playing at the same time).
