Civilization 7 launch day. New installment of iconic strategy series begins its road to redemption
Sid Meier's Civilization VII has officially launched. The game has already received its first updates, which are expected to fix at least some of the game's numerous problems.

This morning, Sid Meier's Civilization VII, the latest installment of the most popular turn-based strategy series, has officially launched. We write "officially" because people who purchased more expensive special editions started the fun last week.
- The game was released simultaneously on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5.
- The game can be purchased on Steam and Epic Games Store.
- The standard edition costs $69.99 on all platforms.
52% positive reviews on Steam, 66,000 players at peak
The game turned out to be very disappointing. Thanks to the owners of more expensive special editions playing for many days, there are already over 12,000 reviews on Steam. Only 52% of them praise Sid Meier's Civilization VII, which the platform categorizes as a "mixed" reception of the title. The latest installment of the series also didn't impress our reviewer, who gave it a score of 5.5/10.
The core elements of the game are very solid, but it faces criticism for its lack of technical polish and for seeming like a very incomplete game (many people even compare it to early access).
The developers have already started patching the game. So far, three updates have been released, the latest of which (1.0.1 Patch 2) debuted yesterday evening. For now, these fixes focus on technical bugs and balance issues.
The disappointing state of the game didn't stop many fans from having fun. The activity record for the past weekend was 66,000 players playing simultaneously, which is even more impressive as it consists solely of special edition owners. So we are curious about how these results will look next weekend.
Either way, the devs have a player's base to improve the seventh Civilization for. The question is only how long it will take them to bring this title to the appropriate level.
