Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and currently the third richest person in the world according to Forbes, is getting ready to tie the knot on his insanely luxurious megayacht, Koru, which is worth $500 million. After a long and drama-filled building process, the yacht has been sailing since 2023.

Bezos' $500 million Koru. From bridge drama to wedding venue

Koru is a giant 127-meter sailing yacht built by the Dutch shipyard Oceanco. What makes it stand out isn’t just its massive size, but also its design. It’s a modern spin on a classic schooner, featuring three huge masts, each about 70 meters tall. The name Koru comes from a Maori word symbolizing new beginnings and growth. A pretty fitting choice for Bezos as he moved into a new chapter after stepping down as Amazon’s CEO in 2021.

The yacht made headlines in 2022 when it turned out to be too tall to fit under Rotterdam’s historic De Hef bridge with its masts attached. The original plan was to temporarily take the bridge apart to let Koru through, but the public wasn’t too thrilled, people even threatened to pelt it with eggs. In the end, the builders quietly moved it without the masts to finish construction elsewhere.

Now that it’s complete, Koru is the definition of high-end luxury. It can host up to 18 guests with a crew of 40, and it’s packed with features like a massive pool on the back deck and sleek wooden interiors. It also travels with a 74-meter vessel called Abeona, which hauls all the extras, like helicopters, jet skis, and other toys.

But the story didn’t stop there. In late 2024, the yacht builder Oceanco got slapped with a €150,000 fine for using illegal teak wood from Myanmar in Koru’s construction. Apparently, the wood wasn’t properly vetted, which violated EU regulations.

Despite all that, Koru is still cruising along, though keeping it running doesn’t come cheap. The annual upkeep is estimated at around $25 million, covering fuel, crew, and all that fancy maintenance.

As for Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sánchez, the big wedding is set to go down between June 24–26, 2025, in Venice, Italy and there’s a good chance Koru will play a big role in the celebration.

Been with gamepressure.androidapks.biz since 2019, mostly writing game guides but you can also find me geeking out about LEGO (huge collection, btw). Love RPGs and classic RTSs, also adore quirky indie games. Even with a ton of games, sometimes I just gotta fire up Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, KOTOR, or Baldur's Gate 2 (Shadows of Amn, the OG, not that Throne of Bhaal stuff). When I'm not gaming, I'm probably painting miniatures or iring my collection of retro consoles.
