One of The Witcher 4 devs confirmed that CD Projekt RED had plans for Ciri years ago
In an interview, Sebastian Kalemba from the CD Projekt RED studio revealed that the idea of making Ciri the main character of The Witcher 4 originated more than a decade ago.

Sebastian Kalemba, who is currently the game director for The Witcher 4 at CD Projekt RED, gave an interesting interview to PC Gamer.
- He revealed that the plans to make Ciri the main character in the fourth installment of the series started forming in 2014, a year before the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
- The devs knew pretty early on how Geralt's story would end in "The Witcher 3," having a clear vision for the Blood and Wine expansion.
- At that time, the discussion began to consider the direction in which the series could develop, and they realized that making Ciri the main character would be the best choice. Of course, at that time, these ideas weren't yet fully crystallized, but the devs were almost sure what they wanted to do in the fourth installment of the series.
The first rumors about Ciri being the protagonist of the fourth installment of the series appeared as early as 2020.
Unfortunately, we still have a long wait for The Witcher 4. The latest reports suggest that the game will be released no earlier than 2027.
