The head of Larian Studios, Swen Vincke, is pleased with the long-term and demanding development of Baldur’s Gate 3. The developer boasted on X about a big increase in the number of BG 3 players on Steam after the launch of Patch 8.
The latest update hit the third "Baldur" on April 15th and introduced, among other things, 12 new subclasses, full cross-play, and a photo mode. The new features attracted many players to PC, which Vincke noticed, sharing a screenshot of statistics available on SteamDB.
As you can see, before the release of Patch 8, around 50,000-80,000 players were regularly playing the game at the same time. However, after the patch was released, the number of fans in BG 3 increased to 169,000 concurrent players.
Vincke also mentioned the good for mods, which should attract players to Baldur’s Gate 3 for "some time." Thanks to finishing work on the popular title, the devs from Larian Studio can now focus more on the "next big thing," which is still far from being completed.
With mod thriving, I think the game will now continue to do well for quite some time. It gives us room to focus on making our next big thing as good as we can, and that focus is more than welcome. We've got big shoes to fill - wrote Swen Vincke.
