This January switched to F2P model. The company that owns the brand, Krafton, boasted data that shows that the switch to free-to-play has been quite a success.

  1. Since the change to free-to-play model with microtransactions PUBG has gained an average of 80,000 players a day. Of course, it should be taken into that not all of them stay with the game for a long time, but it is still quite a success.
  2. Game revenues have increased.
  3. The amounts spent on average by each increased by 20%.
  4. All these figures are included in new financial report by Krafton.
  5. In the first half of this year, the company generated revenues of $729.5 million (up 3%) and profits of $338.4 million (33% more than last year). It was not stated how much of these amounts were generated by PUBG.

This success was achieved despite numerous voices of dissatisfaction from players, who had previously played with the paid version. On Steam of all the ratings given to the game, only 56% are positive. The reception of the free-to-play version is slowly improving, however, as counting only reviews from the last 30 days, 65% of them praise PUBG.

Finally, it's worth mentioning that the report mentions two major projects from Krafton. The first is an RPG based on Korean fantasy novels, will be announced at this year's gamescom.
