Xbox and ASUS might have teased a new handheld device

A short video on social media seems to be hinting at a collaboration between Xbox and ASUS on a handheld device. Hopefully, it's not an April Fool's prank.

Today, the official ASUS recent rumors about an Xbox handheld device planned to release later this year.

ASUS and Xbox appear to be teasing a new handheld device

In a post shared on social media, the short video shows a robot character working on giving themselves some upgrades with a computer attached to some kind of upgrade chamber. At the last second, an ASUS ROG Ally and an Xbox controller fall into the chamber with the robot. This hints that the process will be changed by the inclusion of these two items, but we are unable to get a clear look at the final product. Xbox’s iconic buttons flash on the screen, but that’s about it.

Now, sure, anyone could just post a video suggesting a collaboration with Xbox, but this one manages to earn some credibility with a response from the official Xbox . While nothing concrete, the Xbox shared a classic internet image of a monkey puppet giving side eye. If Xbox had nothing to do with this, they would simply leave it alone, so the response, no matter how sarcastic, lends credibility.

It might be a few more days before we learn more about the truth behind this video, if there is indeed truth to it. If the previous rumors are to be believed, this seems to confirm that the rumored Xbox handheld will not be a pure Xbox device. Instead, it will be an ASUS device, much like the ROG Ally, that is able to run Xbox games or at the very least have some physical Xbox designs included. Hopefully, this is a device that has the power to run the major Xbox titles such as The Outer Worlds 2. Either way, fans of Xbox and Xbox Game looking for a portable device to play their console games could have some good news to look forward to.

Notably, this potential announcement arrives less than 48 hours before the Nintendo Switch 2 presentation, which is scheduled for April 2nd at 6:00am PT. It’s no surprise that the Nintendo Switch has dominated the handheld gaming market since it launched in 2017, and the reveal of this next console has a level of hype rivaling that of Grand Theft Auto 6. It will be interesting to see how this ASUS x Xbox collaboration maneuvers around that presentation. Although, at the end of the day, this could just be an elaborate April Fool’s joke. Hopefully not, because that does seem like the easiest way to enrage fans who do want a device like this.
