- Use various weapons
- Search for secrets that will make the Doom Marine more powerful

Be on the move
The gameplay of Doom forces players to move around a battlefield. Staying still or hiding behind covers makes you an easy target for demons. It will also make the fights longer. Strafe (move to the sides) and jump a lot.
Explore locations before you start fighting
This isn't always possible but there are locations where you can start a battle by, e.g. interacting with a destructible nest. Memorize the layout of platforms and ledges as well as places where you can find health, ammo and other supplies.
Use your environment
Some locations offer additional items that can keep your hero alive. They are mainly power-ups that give the Doom Marine unique abilities for a brief moment, e.g. immortality or double damage. Try to pick them up right after you start fighting – thanks to that you will kill a lot of demons in a short period of time. Also, look for exploding barrels, teleports and plates that can launch your hero into the air. You can use them to, e.g. escape from a place overrun by demons or to reach a new platform.
Perform as many Glory Kills as possible
Run to every "glowing" enemy, provided that you won't endanger your Doom Marine. Every successful Glory Kill rewards you with health or ammo.
Identify monsters that are the biggest threat
Try to quickly asses which monsters are the most dangerous ones. Focus on killing demons that can use devastating attacks (e.g. Mancubus or Baron of Hell) as well as those that can summon more enemies (Summoner).
Use various weapons
Choose weapons that suit a given fight. Avoid situations where you, for example rely only on one powerful gun while you are against agile and not very durable Imps. Try to switch between your weapons so you won't run out of ammo. Your first choice during a fight should be a weapon with full ammo. You can carry only a limited amount of ammunition.
Search for secrets that will make the Doom Marine more powerful
Some of the collectibles found in Doom can only broaden your knowledge of the game's universe or they serve as Easter eggs. However, there are some that can help you. These collectibles are Argent Cells (you can extend your health/armor bar or carry more ammo), Elite Guards (they provide you with tokens that can be spent on upgrading your Praetor Suit), Field Drones (unlock new modifications for the weapons) and Trial Stones (complete these challenges to unlock new runes and upgrade those you already own).
