Another online FPS developed by the British Antimatter Games studio. This time the creators present an alternative end to the Cold War, allowing players to take part in a conflict between NATO and Warsaw Pact troops.
'83 is another online FPS from Antimatter Games. Previously, the British team worked on two installments of the Rising Storm series, co-created with Tripwire Interactive.
Unlike the Rising Storm series, '83 does not illustrate the war that actually took place. Instead, the devs presented an alternative end to the Cold War between the democratic powers and the communist USSR. In 1983, the decade-long struggle between the Western and Eastern blocs rapidly came to an end, leading to an open war between NATO and Warsaw Pact countries. Both sides set off to battle, which will determine the fate of the world.
The gameplay in '83 is based on a similar formula as previous games from Antimatter Games. The title is a realistic FPS, in which players take part in huge clashes involving up to eighty soldiers. During the game, teams fight for control of numerous strategic objects, and their holding may prove to be the key to victory. As in the Rising Storm series, the creators took care to ensure that the content is true to historical truth. We will be provided with weaponry and vehiclesused by NATO and the Warsaw Pact in 1983. All of them have been faithfully recreated so that they look and behave in the game like their real-life counterparts.
A novelty compared to studio's earlier games is the system of Persistent Warfare. The game records data from each battle, including the number of kills and interceptions made by players. Collected statistics affect the subsequent battles on all servers. In addition, soldiers who are particularly outstanding on the battlefield can count on special awards.
In '83, the devs abandoned Unreal Engine 3 for the fourth generation. Thanks to this, the visuals look much better than in previous productions of Antimatter Games.
