Mechanics

A Long Way Down is a roguelike game, in which, instead of traditional equipment, we equip ourselves with cards like in a card game. The cards we acquire can be used in several ways. Some of them represent armour and weapons: these can be "put on" as equipment. Others are for us to use on the battle screen during turn-based battles: we can use them to activate ive abilities in our queue and attack our opponent. The third type of cards are those that help us shape our environment, e.g. by building additional paths in places where they did not exist before. In A Long Way Down there is no imposed character class - it depends on the items we own. By wearing a magician's costume, we become one.

Our hero traverses to procedurally generated dungeons, where not all corridors are always open to us. Using the appropriate cards, we can modify the maze and open inaccessible ages - but be careful, because for each card we use the dungeon master will also place an additional trap or monster on our way.

We are not alone in the underground, as potential companions are waiting for us, who can us, unless they become our opponents. While traveling through the maze we often have the opportunity to show our good or bad side. The system of morality influences our perception of the environment (our decisions have an impact on the mental health of the hero and, as a result, on how well he endures the situation) and on the attitude of the characters we encounter and whether they will become our enemies or allies.

Technical aspects

The graphics of A Long Way Down resemble Don't Starve. Both games feature a game of light and shadow contrasts and similar drawing style. The similarity is particularly striking if we look at the protagonists of both titles.
