Fifth expansion for the 4X strategy from 2023. Age of Wonders 4: Ways of War introduces the culture of the Oathsworn strongly tied to combat. Intrigues also play an important role in the add-on - they're story elements on the map which we can use to meet our goals.
Age of Wonders 4: Ways of War is an expansion to the turn-based 4X strategy, originally released in 2023. Similar to the base version, the add-on was developed by the Triumph Studios team, and its publisher is Paradox Interactive.
The expansion enriches Age of Wonders 4 with the culture of the Oathsworn, strongly tied to the epic of combat. Following its path allows for the choice of one of three ethical codes - the oath of harmony, righteousness, or strife. The first one focuses on creating a multicultural, safe empire, the second one is based on fighting against the forces of evil, while the third one receives rewards for clashes with armies more powerful than ours.
In Age of Wonders 4: Ways of War we get access to 4 tomes with specific skills and special units. Tome of Discipline allows strengthening the wards, while also unlocking access to warrior monks. Fans of dirty tactics may choose the Tome of Shades and using the services of assassins. Tome of Calamity and Tome of Prosperity reach out to forces directly related to good or evil.
Intrigues, or plot events (including assassinations), play a significant role in Age of Wonders 4: Ways of War, which we can use for our own purposes. There is nothing to prevent us from ing the conspirators or stopping their schemes. Additionally, the expansion introduces two faction forms (Ogrekin and the Simians), unique mount types (Graceful Judge, Blessed Dragon, White Warg), as well as an interface skin related to the Oathsworn, new rulers, and more music composed once again by Michiel van den Bos.
Following the pattern of the base version of the game, in Age of Wonders 4: Ways of War expansion both single-player fun and network cooperation & competition modes are available.
Age of Wonders 4: Ways of War is a non-standalone expansion, therefore it requires the installed base version of Age of Wonders 4.
