A third person-perspective horror by Remedy Entertainment and continuation of the adventures of the likeable writer Alan Wake. The title features a shorter story set in an open world inspired by the films of Quentin Tarantino. The protagonist finds out that he is inside the world of Night Springs, the TV series he once wrote scripts for.

Riding the crest of a wave of popularity of 2010’s The Signal, the creators from Remedy Entertainment decided to prepare yet another story about the titular hero. While the original title drew inspiration from Stephen King’s books, this production for PC and X360 is more similar to films by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez.
The action begins two years after the events from Alan Wake, in a small town in Arizona, near the famous Route 66. To his horror, he finds out that he is inside Night Springs – a TV series based on scripts he wrote as a young writer, where reality meets fiction. To make things worse, he has to face his dark alter ego – a serial killer named Mr. Scratch.
Even though the plot of American Nightmare drops references to the original title, e.g. tells you what happened to the hero after the ending, finishing the first installment is not necessary.
The mechanics follow in the original title’s footsteps and feature e.g. a characteristic combat system based on the use of a flashlight.
Finishing the campaign takes a few hours. However, the devs introduce a new game mode – Fight Till Dawn, in which you need to fend off waves of opponents. The score you get is displayed in an online ranking, so you can compare yourself with other players.
