Alex Kidd in the Miracle World DX is a remake of a classic platform game from Sega catalogue. The original was released in 1986 in Japan on Sega Master System consoles. Merge Games and Jankenteam companies are responsible for the refreshed version of the game.

Plot

Alex Kidd in the Miracle World DX tells the story of Alex. One day, a martial arts student learns the story of the kidnapping of an heir to the King Thunder by a wicked Janken who took over the Radaxian city and its neighborhood. The hero discovers that he is the missing son of the overthrown ruler and sets out to save his kingdom.

Mechanics

The original Alex Kidd in the Miracle World was a typical two-dimensional side-scrolling platform game. We watched the action from the side, and the Alex we were steering could jump and attack enemies, as well as use power-ups in the form of vehicles. The goal of the game was to reach the end of levels full of platforms, enemies and various obstacles. From time to time we fought with bosses who had to be defeated in unusual duels in the game of stone, scissors, paper.

The DX version does not change the basic assumptions of the original game, but introduces many modifications. The gameplay was adapted to modern standards to be more intuitive and less random. The devs also added a lot of novelties, including levels and boss fights.

In addition to the basic version of the game, Alex Kidd in the Miracle World DX includes additional gameplay variants: Boss Rush (a series of clashes with the bosses themselves) and a classic mode, which is simply the original version of Alex Kidd in the Miracle World.

Technical aspects

As befits a new version of the over thirty-year-old game, Alex Kidd in the Miracle World DX looks much better than the original. The devs used two-dimensional graphics and numerous visual effects to ensure that the game does not differ from modern 2D platform games like Hollow Knight. However, fans of retro can return to the original graphics with one click during the game.
