Anima: Gate of Memories - The Nameless Chronicles is a sequel to the action RPG from 2016. The new game was developed by the creators of the first entry in the series, Anima Project Studio.
Plot
Anima: Gate of Memories – The Nameless Chronicles takes place in the universe created for the table RPG titled Anima: Beyond Fantasy. It combines the western medieval fantasy with the style of Japanese role-playing games and with Asian mysticism. During the game, the players assume the role of the Nameless, an immortal being convicted to an eternal journey. When a growing shadow from his past begins to threaten the world, the Nameless is forced to deal with the threat before it is too late.
Mechanics
In Anima: Gate of Memories – The Nameless Chronicles the action is presented from a third-person perspective, but from time to time the events are presented with different cameras (for example with a side perspective). Compared to the first entry in the series, the game doesn’t introduce any revolutionary changes in the mechanics. The gameplay is still focused on an exploration of a large world, participating in conversations with non-playable characters, fighting regular enemies, and fighting powerful bosses.
The dynamical battles are fought in real-time and the key to success lies in toggling various skills of the protagonist (including the hand of Thanatos that increase the strength of any other attack), dodging, using counter-attacks and combining attacks into spectacular combos. As the player progresses through the game, he or she develops the Nameless by equipping him with better weapons and artifacts, by reaching new experience levels, and by buying new skills known from the original table role-playing game.
Technical aspects
The three-dimensional graphics of Anima: Gate of Memories – The Nameless Chronicles use the cel-shading style known from the first entry in the series.
