An original, multiplayer-oriented card game created specifically for VR goggles. The player controls a 3D avatar chosen from among 52 characters. The player observes their avatar from a third-person view and the gameplay focuses on building up the deck. During subsequent battles and encounters with other players, one expands their deck with new cards.

Ascension VR for PC is an unusual title combining mechanics of a card game (focuses on building up the deck) with the Virtual Reality technologies. Ascension VR was created and released by Temple Gates Games – an independent developer popular for many VR games, such as Bazaar or Discovery VR.

Mechanics

The player's goal here is to build up their deck through buying cards alongside progression. Each card has its unique features and making a good use of those is the key to success. The player has 52 different characters, buildings and monsters at their disposal, and observes fights in full 3D, from a third-person perspective.

Game modes

Although the multiplayer constitutes the main game mode in Ascension VR for PC, beginners can learn how to play the game in the singleplayer component comprised of a simplistic tutorial and skirmishes. This allows to learn basic rules of the game and get familiar with the cards.

The singleplayer component can be treated as an appetizer here. The creators were focused on delivering the players with a social experience, which is visible in fully three-dimensional player avatars. The animations are synchronized with the player's body movements and their voice. Thus an avatar moves in the same manner the player does and their lips move as well when the player speaks.

Ascension VR s HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR. Cross-platform online multiplayer is available regardless of which device is used.

Misc.

It is worth adding that a co-founder of Temple Gates Games - Theresa Duringer, is afraid of flying and one of the methods allowing her to relax during a flight is playing VR games. Thus Ascension VR was created specifically for those suffering from similar ailments – the game can be considered part of their therapy.
