Astebreed is an arcade action game combining elements typical for shoot 'em up games and classic three-dimensional shooters. Guided by a powerful mecca, players face hordes of enemies, but they observe the fights from different perspectives - it can be a TPP view, sometimes 2D, and at certain moments even an isometric projection. The game described herein was developed by Edelweiss studio.

The player assumes the role of Roy Becket, a young pilot who dreams of matching the skills of his legendary father. He receives the chance to prove his value much faster than expected. His galaxy was invaded by a race of aggressive mosses that destroy everything on their way. The army, to which Roy belongs, manages to capture one of the special machines and convert them to serve humanity. However, it requires someone to sit at its helm - the task falls on the shoulders of the hero. On his adventure, he is aided by a young girl.

Nindie Spotlight: 8.5 / 10 by Nindie Spotlight

With as many bullet hell shmups as I’ve played over the years, including ones that have dabbled in different perspectives of various kinds, I’ve simply never played anything like Astebreed. It’s visually full of detail that you’ll blow by and struggle to appreciate as your screen is full of targets, but for all of that intensity the gameplay rarely has any hitches. Once you get the controls in order it’s smooth sailing and feels very natural, even as the game constantly shifts perspective and style on you. While I couldn’t really tell you much of anything about the story, there’s certainly one there, just since it plays out while you’re desperately trying to stay alive I’m not sure you’re really meant to digest it more than in ing. If you’ve been looking for something different and intense in a bullet hell shooter, Astebreed is a solid choice.
