Another experimental project developed by the British studio Ubisoft Reflections, the creators of unusual action games Grow Home and Grow Up. The title is an unusual arena shooter focused not on combat itself, but on collecting matter and evolving. The title focuses on online competitions for up to eight players. Each of them starts the battle as a single atom that can absorb mass.
Another experimental project developed by British studio Ubisoft Reflections, the creators of well received Grow Up – two unusual action games with unique climbing mechanics. This time developers created an arena shooter focused not on combat, but on matter collecting and evolving.
Atomega for PC focuses on online battles for up to eight players. Each of them starts a ten-minute-long round as a single atom that can absorb mass but cannot shoot. After collecting enough resources the controlled character evolves into further forms – a dinosaur, a gorilla, a human etc. There are seven stages of evolution – each with unique advantages and preferred tactics. The objective of the game is to collect enough mass to transform into Omega – a giant organism that can hit the enemies with a continuous energy beam.
Contrary to the majority of online shooters, in Atomega for PC the players are awarded not for eliminating the opponents, but for collecting matter. Violence isn’t necessary to win – the player can avoid battles completely and focus only on evolving into new forms.
Similarly to previous games developed by Ubisoft Reflections, Atomega features a unique graphics style. The battles take place on an arena that resembles ancient ruins floating among the stars. The forms of the controlled character are constructed from purple cubes of different size.

Atomega's concept is great, especially in a world of identikit PvP shooters, but its dearth of content means it simply doesn't last.

Ironically, Atomega's fatal flaw is that it never grew to its full potential. It's a mostly-unique multiplayer game that's good until it's too familiar. Once it's too familiar, it's too small and simple for its own good. Call it growing pains.

Atomega takes the classic multiplayer fps formula and makes it ridiculous (in a fun way) by adding a levelling mechanic based on collecting resources. It’s a little light on maps and modes, but even with its limited content it serves as a powerful reminder to the bigshots in the FPS world that sometimes it pays to prioritize fun
