Release Date: February 25, 2010
The final installment of the second trilogy of Avernum, crowning the Spiderweb Software series launched in 2000. In this part of the game we are struggling with the problem of poisoned mushrooms, which are the main food for the inhabitants of the title land, as well as a new opponent who attacks the underground community.
Avernum 6, released on PC and iOS, is the sixth installment of the cycle of classic cRPG games by Spiderweb Software, end the final game of the second trilogy taking place in the titular underground land of Avernum. Unlike the first three editions of the series, which are remakes of the Exile series released in 1995-1997, parts 4-6 tell a completely new story.
In Avernum 6, our team must save the land of Avernum plagued by a series of successive disasters. The main problem turns out to be the poisoning of fungi, which for centuries have been the basic food for the underground community. Mushrooms affected by a strange plague become poisonous, causing the death of unsuspecting residents. The land weakened in this way soon becomes an object of attack from the Slithzerikai race. Avernum plunges into chaos and it is up to the player to find a way to stop the sinister hordes and restore the old order.
As in the previous parts of the series, in Avernum 6 we travel through a vast world, consisting of a system of dungeons and caves, as well as underground cities and castles. Hundreds of main and side quests, valuable treasures and, of course, a multitude of enemies with different combat styles and tactics await the player's team, which consists of heroes of different races and abilities. Avernum 6 uses a classic turn-based combat system, and during the fights, we use a wide range of equipment gathered during the game and more than 50 spells, which we can learn or buy during the adventure.
As for the graphics, Avernum 6 doesn't differ significantly from its predecessors - it uses the same engine and graphics design, maintained in the style of classic cRPG productions from the '90s. The action of the game is shown in isometric view typical for Avernum series, and the most important difference is the changed interface, especially the reduced HUD, which in previous games occupied a large part of the screen.
