Release Date: March 13, 2018
Oldskulowa jRPG game with a tactical turn-based combat system, a complex storyline and graphic design combining two-dimensional and three-dimensional solutions. MassHive Media studio is responsible for the creation of this production.
Azure Saga: Pathfinder is a jRPG, which refers to classic games such as Xenogears or the Final Fantasy series. The title is set in the world of techno-fantasy (combining elements of fantasy and science fiction) and has visuals combining two-dimensional and three-dimensional elements. The title was developed by independent Indonesian studio MassHive Media (the devs of such games as Vimala: Defense Warlords or Chill Out! Zombies).
Azure Saga: Pathfinder takes place in a distant future, in which mankind managed to survive mainly on colonies scattered all over the universe. A legend about the mysterious planet Azure appears in the stories told from father to son. It is supposed to be full of life and various resources and could help mankind return to its former glory and avoid annihilation, which seems to be only a matter of time. The player takes on the role of a young scientist named Sons, who sets off on a journey to find his father.
Azure Saga: Pathfinder is a quite typical jRPG, in which the the player observes the action from above - from the isometric perspective. The player explores the three-dimensional world of the game, talks with characters, performs tasks, solves puzzles, finds secrets and treasures and gradually discovers the plot prepared by the devs.
An important aspect of Azure Saga: Pathfinder is also combat, which uses a tactical turn-based system that enables us to lead a three-person team. Just like in classic jRPGs in the vein of Final Fantasy or Xenogears at the beginning of the battle, we are moved to a special screen. Heroes and enemies stand in front of each other and take action in a specific order.
We are able to execute ordinary attacks, as well as using special techniques that are much more dangerous or have specific tactical applications. What's more, individual attacks can be combined into deadly combinations - their mastery is one of the conditions for success in battles against the most dangerous enemies found in the world of Azure Saga: Pathfinder.
As the game progresses, we discover new equipment and abilities, as well as special gems, thanks to which we can better adapt the character to our style of play.
Azure Saga: Pathfinder can only be played solo. The devs did not prepare any multiplayer mode - the mainstay of the game is a story campaign.
Azure Saga: Pathfinder features nice visuals that combine two-dimensional characters and a three-dimensional environment, resembling e.g. Final Fantasy Tactics or Xenogears. Also the dialogues are shown in two dimensions, which use nice, handmade illustrations. The game is characterized by a rather typical manga-style graphic, but the designs of individual characters make a good impression.
