Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge is a platform game developed by Rare; THQ published the title on the GBA platform. It is interesting to note it is the first title developed by the British studio after it was bought by Microsoft in 2002.
Story
The story told in Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge begins two months after the events presented in the first Banjo-Kazooie. Klungo, the faithful servant of Gruntilda, was unable to get her out from under the boulder, which was dropped on her by the main characters; however, he managed to construct a mechanical body to which the antagonist transferred her mind. This allowed Gruntilda to take revenge on the main characters, kidnapping them and moving them twenty years back in time, thus hoping to prevent them from meeting for the first time. Mumbo Jumbo, however, manages to recall Banjo to his house, so that our protege can face the antagonist once again.
Mechanics
The action in Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge is shown from a camera hanging over the hero's head. The game consists of five vast levels, accessed from Spiral Mountain hub. Just like in the original, during the game we traverse locations, jump over platforms and battle numerous. Banjo's abilities expand as we progress through the game - over time, for example, he can change his form, giving him access to previously blocked places.
The subsequent stages stand before us after collecting ten jigsaw puzzles called Jiggies, which we gain in return for winning a mini-game, defeating a boss or completing a task commissioned by an NPC. In addition, during the course of the game, it is worth looking for the so-called Jinjos imprisoned in each location, because saving them enables us to gain assistance from the oracle, which shows us the places where the not yet collected Jiggies were hidden. The list of collectibles is complemented by notes (in exchange foe them Bozzeye teaches Banjo new moves), as well as honeycombs (thanks to which Honey B can extend the health bar of the protagonist).
Technical aspects
Although Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge features two-dimensional graphics, developers managed to achieve an impression of three-dimensionality thanks to a change of perspective and appropriate construction of stages; the whole thing was kept in the cartoonish style known from the first Banjo-Kazooie.
