Action game based on the motifs of a series known in Poland under the title of Cosmic Wars. Players take the side of Maximala (descendants of the Autobots) or Predacons (successors of the Decepticons), and the outcome of the conflict taking place on the surface of the prehistoric Earth depends on their choice.
Beast Wars: Transformers is an action game developed by SCE Cambridge Studio (formerly known as Millennium Interactive).
Just like in the original, the events told in Beast Wars: Transformers take place after the conflict between Autobots and Decepticons has ended. The peace worked out at that time was hanging on the hair when the descendants of the latter, the Predacons, decided to start a rebellion and, under the command of Megatron, fled aboard the ship called the Darkside. Maximals led by Optimus Primal set off to chase them.
The actual action begins at the moment when, after the shifting back in time, both parties are forced to land on the surface of prehistoric Earth. The planet is filled with energon - an extremely powerful substance that can permanently damage robots exposed to it for too long. For this reason, both Maximals and Predacons have no choice but to take the form of animals in order to protect themselves against the murderous effects of the energon.
Meanwhile, Megatron decides to use the potential of this substance to try to conquer the galaxy - as one can easily guess, it is up to Maximals to stop this evil plan.
In Beast Wars: Transformers we observe the action from third-person perspective. During the game, the player can take both Maximals' and Predacons' side by playing as one of the twelve robots (six for each faction) endowed with an individual set of strengths and weaknesses. On the side of Maximals, we have Optimus Primal, Cheetor, Rattrap, Rhinox, Airazor, and Dinobot; the Predacons include Megatron, Scorponok, Tarantulas, Blackarachnia, Inferno and Terrorsaur.
The game itself is about completing levels, achieving subsequent mission objectives and fighting the enemy. Two indicators inform us about the current condition of the machine we are controlling - in addition to the life bar, the screen shows the tolerance meter for the omnipresent energon, which increases only after the Transformer takes the form of an animal. However, the matters are is complicated by the fact that only in the form of a walking robot can they use firearms (improved in the course of our adventure).
The pillar of Beast Wars: Transformers is the single-player mode. In addition, the PC version also offers a multiplayer mode, enabling us to have fun together with up to seven other players.
Already at the release, Beast Wars: Transformers's three-dimensional visuals did not present a particularly high level of execution - it is worth noting that the PC edition looked a bit better than its console counterpart.
