BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode One for PC, PS3 and X360 is the first story expansion for 2013's action game BioShock: Infinite. The expansion created by Irrational Games is a nod the fans of the first two installments of the BioShock series - BioShock and BioShock 2.
The story is set in one of the alternative dimensions of the underwater metropolis - Rapture. It is 1958, New Year's Eve, when Elisabeth visits Booker DeWitt in his office. The young client asks him for help in finding a girl called Sally... The expansion gives an opportunity to explore the underwater metropolis before the rebellion turns it into a hell. Therefore, the player can see what was Rapture really meant to be - a true, Utopian city. During the campaign though, it soon becomes clear that it is by no means an underwater paradise. It is home to many dark secrets instead.
In its gameplay mechanics, BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode One for PC, PS3 and X360 resembles the third installment of the series. Therefore, the gameplay consists of dynamic combat sequences, against large groups of enemies. In combat, the player can use a few types of firearms, and a variety of supernatural powers which come with the plasmids. However, the expansion presents a harder level of difficulty; the amount of ammo the player can find is clearly smaller, and a greater emphasis has been put on stealth. An additional feature is the possibility of sneaking up on the enemy and performing a quick execution. Occasionally, the gameplay is diversified with puzzle solving.
Despite the fact that the expansion brings the players back to the place that has already been visited in the first two installments, the developers did not use any of the existing visual elements. Instead, the metropolis and its inhabitants were designed from a scratch, taking all the advantages of Unreal Engine 3.
