Blade & Soul for PC and PS3 is a MMORPG game featuring Far Eastern combat art which focuses on fast-paced clashes with opponents. The game takes place in a land resembling Asia, with the story revolving around the characters from the Korean mythology.

The gameplay involves exploration of areas infested with all kinds of monsters, located in high mountains, forests, caves, castles and dungeons. The environment which we traverse changes during the game, and we must always be ready to clash with giants, angels of death, oversized insects and characters controlled by players. These encounters frequently end with a fight. We inflict damage upon our adversaries using both melee weapons (swords, daggers, axes, etc.) and fighting from a distance with the help of spells. Our skirmishes are reminiscent of acrobatics, and the injuries we cause with combinations of blows are expressed in numbers. This allows us to easily see if the weapon we use is effective and when the attacked opponent loses strength.

Game Debate: 7 / 10

Overall it's clear Blade & Soul is an MMORPG which stands out from the crowd for different reasons from the norm. Of course it's got all the usual questing systems, dungeon raids, and character customisation, but where it really comes into its own is its competitive edge. PvP combat is as good as many fighting games, so provided the advanced loop grabs you Blade & Soul could occupy you for months to come.

MMORPG.com: 7.6 / 10 by William Murphy

I've had fun with my time in Blade & Soul, but my desire to is waning as I sit at the cap and realize all that's left to do is more dailies and grinding for better gear… I'm pretty sure I've been here before. I'd be all about the world PVP if it was more meaningful, just as I'd play the arena PVP if I was at all good enough to make a go of it (I am not). In the end, Blade & Soul just feels like a game that's not for me and that's OK.  It's still a very good game, quite competent at achieving its goals. It sometimes feels like its big MMO features are just tacked on to give people something to do between the next arena match, and that's OK too. If League of Legends or SMITE had a big open world campaign, I'd wager I'd play them more too.  Blade & Soul can be content in having some of the best combat in MMO history, and I'll be content to pop my head in on the game from time to time to see what's new.

Blade & Soul's phenomenal combat isn't enough to make up for its dated quests.
