The third installment in a war-themed RTS game series, whose previous editions were released in the years 2003-2007. The game was developed by Russian studio Nival Interactive, also known for Rage of Mages, Silent Storm, and the fifth installment in the cult Heroes of Might & Magic series. In contrast to its predecessors, Blitzkrieg 3 focuses mainly on multiplayer gameplay and is available as a free-to-play game with microtransactions.

Blitzkrieg 3 for PC is the third main installment in the highly regarded real-time strategy game series, Etherlords series. Contrary to the initial plans to release Blitzkrieg 3 as a free-to-play production, the game was eventually released in regular business model, devoid of any micropayments, which significantly enhances the gameplay comfort.
Just like its predecessors, Blitzkrieg 3 is set during the World War II. In the single player campaign we have an opportunity to follow the most important events of years 1939-1945, starting with the invasion of Poland up to the siege of Berlin. In the game, we can try out each of the three factions that took part in this grand conflict, namely the Soviet Union, the Axis, and the western Allies.
Unlike in the previous installments in the series, the single player campaign is but an addition to the game's main focus which, this time around, is the multiplayer mode. The gameplay mechanics were significantly altered to utilize solutions known from popular mobile strategies and browser titles such as Clash of Clans.
In the beginning, each player is given a base of operations, where we erect and improve buildings, recruit troops, build vehicles, develop technology, and deploy units as well as stationary fortifications (i.e. bunkers, howitzers, anti-tank guns, mines, etc.). The goal is to create a base that has an adequate offensive and defensive potential. The former allows us to attack enemy positions and acquire resources necessary for further development, while the latter ensures protection from similar activities on the other players’ part. The game is designed to simulate the frontlines, where individual players assault key strategic points of their opponents.
Despite the fact that the most famous generals of World War II (each having their favorite unit and strategy) make an appearance in Blitzkrieg 3, the tactical aspect of the game is somewhat simplified, which makes the title deviate significantly from some more prominent productions of the genre, especially the Company of Heroes series. The individual factions do not differ from one another overmuch, the units possess a similar, limited set of tactical capabilities, and the war reality within the gameplay is recreated rather figuratively.
Contrary to the previous products of the Blitzkrieg franchise in which extensive story campaigns constituted the core of the game, the third one focuses primarily on multiplayer. The production allows the players from all over the world to play on the same server without any restrictions. The game world is a continuous one, therefore our base defends itself from enemy aggression even when we are not in direct control.
In spite of obvious borrowings from other modern mobile/browser strategy games, Blitzkrieg 3 for PC boasts significantly more advanced graphics, which, despite the lack of full control over the camera, look very impressive.
