BloodNet is a classic adventure game with an ixture of RPG, combining the features of the cyberpunk current with elements of gothic horrors about vampires. The game is the responsibility of the renowned Microprose company, known mainly for its numerous simulation games and strategies under the name of Sida Meiera.
The action of the game is set in New York of the future, in which the main attraction is the powerful computer network Cyberspace. Unfortunately, violence, cyber gangs and the power of money also dominate there. In addition, access to the network is limited by the powerful TransTechnicals corporation, against which numerous groups of hackers conspire. The player takes on the role of one of them, a former mercenary named Ransom Stark.
It turns out that vampires are also trying to control the Cyberspace. During the execution of one of the orders, our protagonist is unexpectedly bite by a vampire named Abraham van Helsing (!), and the slow transformation into a monster, only blocks the Old Chip implanted in the head. The hero starts a race against time, trying to find a program called Incubus, which is desired by everyone, and which can restore universal access to the cybernet and stop the spreading virus of vampirism.
In general, BloodNet gameplay resembles classic point-and-click adventures, with a lot of exploration, puzzle solving and dialogue with the characters you meet. In the game, however, quite a lot of RPG elements have been implemented. Before starting the game, we create our character from scratch, and during the game we develop it, dress and equip it with various weapons and items useful in combat. In the course of the game we can also the team of independent characters, and the effect of individual battles depends on their skills (such as hacking, perception, etc.).
Playing in BloodNet is a relatively difficult game, and there are many ways to succeed. The strong point of the game is the script, slightly reminiscent of the work of William Gibson (Johnny Mnemonic, Neuromancer) and the original cyberpunk atmosphere.
