Release Date: October 14, 2014
The third installment in the Borderlands series, offering an insight into the events happening during the period between the storylines of Borderlands and its sequel - Borderlands 2. The Pre-Sequel! was developed by 2K Australia cooperating with Gearbox Software. The action takes place on the moon of Pandora, and the players assume the roles of characters working for Hyperion - a corporation belonging to Handsome Jack.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a continuation of the popular series of post apocalyptic, first-person shooters, contained RPG elements. The game has been produced by 2K Australia studio, BioShock series developer who worked with Gearbox Software, the creators of the series.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel takes place between the events of the first and second parts. This time, the game takes us to the Pandora’s moon – on the planet still runs a campaign of the predecessors. The employer of our hero is Handsome Jack, the antagonist of Borderlands 2, who has broken Hyperion’s orbital station corporation on the surface of the satellite. While working for him, the players watch his transformation and the story bond together the events of Borderlands and Borderlands 2.
During the game we can choose one of four heroes. These are Athena the gladiator known from DLC the Secret Armory of General Knoxx, Wilhelm the Enforcer - one of the bosses of Borderlands 2, Nisha the Lawbringer, the optional boss of Borderlands 2 and Fragtrap and Claptrap - the battle version of robot-mascot of the series, which we meet at the beginning of the first part of the game. Each of the available characters have different skills - for example, Athena acts as a tank and uses kinetic shield which you can throw at enemies.
The game provides a very developed weapon system, similar to this contained in Borderlands 2. The 2K Australia’s creators also have focused on introducing new game mechanics and have used the fact that on the moon, where the action takes place is lower gravity. Moreover, on the of the zero atmospheres the oxygen has become an essential element, which must be used strategically - the gas cylinders can be even used as a jetpack. There have been also introduced new weapons, which for example can freeze the enemies.
Visually Borderlands: The Pre-sequel is similar to the previous parts. The developers continue the original, comic book style of the series, but they had to make some changes on the of placing the action on the moon. They have changed views and surroundings.
As it is always in the Borderlands series, the important element is the cooperative mode (up to 4 players), where players can select character and defeat enemies together and perform tasks.
