A turn-based strategy with RPG and card mechanics, inspired by Heroes of Might & Magic, Age of Wonders or Disciples. In Broken Alliance we explore the magical world of Eol, playing as one of the available factions. We expand our city, build an army and compete in turn-based battles featuring cards from our deck.
Broken Alliance is a turn-based strategy with RPG elements, enriched with mechanics straight from card games. It was developed by the independent studio Placeholder Gameworks from Estonia, which has the game Disciples.
Broken Alliance takes us to the fantasy world of Eol, which found itself on the brink of destruction as a result of magic abuse. During the game, we take the lead of one of the factions shaking the world. Our task is to save it before it gets destroyed. How the future of this land unfolds largely depends on our actions and the choices we make.
We start the game in Broken Alliance by creating a character and choosing the side of the conflict. While the representatives of Paradise live in harmony with nature, Forge is a technological powerhouse, Anchorage are traditionalists, and Phobos is a faction of fanatics. We have nothing left to do but to plunge into the whirl of adventures, driven by quests that push the plot forward and the personal missions of the heroes.
We watch the action from a bird's eye view, just like in the genre's classics. Controlling one of the characters, we traverse locations and interact with objects, discover artifacts, take over buildings, and finally recruit units and engage in battles with opponents. Our command center is a city that we are expanding as we progress.
The skirmishes take place in a turn-based mode, on arenas covered with a grid of hexagonal fields. We play cards that allow us to use artifacts and make use of specific powers and attacks of individual units. Over time, we expand our deck, which broadens our range of moves available on the battlefield.
The graphic design of Broken Alliance was made in pixel art technique.
