A management-based simulator developed by Every Single Soldier. The player assumes the role of air traffic control officer aboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.
The PC release of Carrier Deck has been developed by Every Single Soldier. Creators of the game have previously worked on such titles as Vietnam ‘65. Interestingly enough, the developers’ team includes Johan Nagel – RPA infantry lieutenant, whose knowledge of the modern military conflicts is reflected in the level of realism in all the studio’s games.
In the game, a player assumes the role of the officer responsible for managing the air traffic from the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) aircraft carrier. Particular missions take place on the oceans all over the world. Before each mission, a player has to participate in a briefing presented on a separate screen that describes the story background, provides the details on the location one is about to be dispatched to, and presents the possible difficulties that might hinder the proper functioning of the ship.
In the PC release of Carrier Deck, the gameplay builds on managing the crew and equipment of the ship – all this to prepare the machines in time for a safe take off from the CVN-76 and to ensure their safety when they return from each mission. On different stages of the game, the ship harbors such aircraft as the F18 Hornet, the airborne command center – Northrop Grumman E-2 Hawkeye – and choppers such as the Seahawk (able to land on water) and the heavy carrier Chinook. Deg the right queue for the machines and avoiding collisions is crucial, as the difficulty level increases with one’s progress through the game – the deeper into the game, the more machines onboard the ship, below deck, and in mid-air. Moreover, a player has to pay attention to changing weather conditions.
Even though the visuals in the game are limited, the graphics are quite good. The developers managed to represent the models of particular vehicles very well. Those interested in the military topics will instantly recognize particular planes and choppers – this also regards the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier. Quite low system requirements make the game run smoothly even on older computers.
