Chernobylite is a first-person action adventure game belonging to the survival horror subgenre, set in the Exclusion Zone around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The game focuses on the story and beautiful visuals, made with Unreal Engine 4 and photogrammetry technology. It was developed by the Polish studio The Farm 51 - authors of Get Even, among others.
The main character of Chernobylite is a physicist named Igor, whose beloved disappeared without a trace during the events related to the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl. Although 30 years have ed since then, the man has never come to with his loss. After a mysterious package with a photo of his beloved and her increasingly frequent visions in his dreams, the protagonist returns to the place of the tragedy, now called the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, believing that she is still there. It turns out that a mysterious substance (Chernobylite) is being mined in The Zone, and the area is protected by mercenaries. But in the darkness lurk even more sinister, supernatural things...
Unlike many other survival horror games, Chernobylite offers a non-linear story combined with free exploration of a world divided into a number of smaller locations. The gameplay is based on gathering information, solving puzzles and dealing with dangers (you can both avoid them and fight them). The choices the player makes, such as who to trust, are very important. Decisions also shape the environment and influence the companions. The game also includes the fight - the system responsible for it does not deviate from the first-person shooter standards.
Apart from monsters and soldiers, the environment itself can be a source of danger - developers have included in their game a handful of mechanics characteristic of survival games. This includes gathering supplies and using an extensive crafting system, which allows our protagonist to create many useful items (including weapons and other survival gear), as well as improve the equipment he already has. It is important to develop a base camp where you can create more advanced equipment and improve your skills. Extensive knowledge of physics and chemistry acquired by the protagonist turns out to be invaluable in this case. In The Zone there are also areas with high radiation, which can have a negative impact on the hero's health.
In Chernobylite we can play only solo. The developers have not prepared any multiplayer mode.
Chernobylite features realistic, 3D graphics, thanks to the advanced Unreal Engine 4. As in the case of Get Even, the developers decided to use the Reality 51 photogrammetry technique (it's all about 3D scanning). Thanks to this, we will find in the game faithful reproduction of real places from Chernobyl.
In order to make the game as authentic as possible, the creators took a trip to Chernobyl and prepared a rich documentation during it. Before creating Chernobylite, they used it to create Chernobyl VR Project.

Chernobylite Review: Welcome to the Exclusion Zone
Chernobylite is perhaps the closest you will ever get to visiting the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone and avoid any of the radiation aftereffects. And it also somehow manages to make it fun and intriguing at the same time.
