An upgraded version of Chime – a well-received mix of a logic and a rhythm game released in 2010. The new edition does not differ much from its predecessor – we are given a grid that is gradually filled with player-inserted blocks creating quads – rectangle and square shaped fields that are at least 3x3 in size. Completed figures unlock the further parts of the music track that accompany our actions.
Chime Sharp for PC, PS4 and XONE is a refreshed version of Chime – a mix of a logic game and a rhythm game released in 2010 to critical acclaim. Similarly to its predecessor, the game was developed and released for PC, PS4 and XONE by Steve Curran, who this time decided to cooperate with Twistplay, an independent developer known from a number of titles released for both PCs and mobile platforms.
The basic idea of Chime Sharp hasn’t been changed – it’s till a mix of Tetris-like gameplay and a number of elements known from rhythm games. The player enters a two-dimensional grid that is gradually filled with ading blocks. The grid is scanned regularly in search of Quads – rectangle and square shaped fields built from the player-applied blocks that activate the next fragments of the song played in the background. Notably, we’re often under the pressure from a time counter – consistent and active progress results with bonus points.
Aside from a timed match, there’s a number of additional modes, including Sharp Mode, which doesn’t contain a time limit, but offers an additional challenge with a limited number of lives which are increased by creating new Quads, Strike Mode which sees us amass the highest possible number of points in a fixed time limit of 90 seconds, and Challenge Mode that gives us a more basic set of tiles and a much bigger grid.
In opposition to the original title, Chime Sharp for PC, PS4 and XONE offers better visuals, as well as a refreshed soundtrack with fourteen new tracks.
