Color Guardians is a side-scrolling action game developed for PS4, PC and PSV. It combines features of classic platform games with endless runners that are popular on mobile platforms. The game was developed by Fair Play Labs, a studio from Costa Rica that previously created a few successful games for PC, PlayStation Vita and Apple portable devices.
Mechanics
In the game the player takes control of three titular Color Guardians: Rod, Lia and Grock. They represent three basic colors: yellow, red and blue. Their task is to return the colors to the worlds they travel through. In order to achieve it, they must collect orbs of various colors. The action is presented from a side perspective. The mechanics of the game are similar to those from the classic two-dimensional games, which required the player to avoid various obstacles and jump between platforms.
A novelty is the fact that during the game the player doesn’t move only in one plane, but he skips between three parallel tracks. Additionally, in order to collect an orb of a specific color, the player must first transform into a character of the corresponding color. These features, combined with dynamical gameplay speed, can be compared to endless runners, games that are popular on mobile devices.
In Color Guardians for PS4, PC and PSV there are more than 80 levels, including hidden levels and challenging boss fights. As the player progresses through the game and completes new challenges, various bonus features are unlocked, including new songs, concept arts and three-dimensional models.
Technical aspects
As one could predict, the graphics of the game are very colorful and can be liked by players of all ages.
