Cytus is an unusual game, which combines the gameplay model typical of rhythm games with a story straight from a science fiction book or comic book. It was developed by Rayark Games.
Cytus is a music game prepared for mobile platforms. The production offers a simple gameplay model offering several hundred different songs belonging to many genres - pop, jazz, trance, hardcore, drum'n bass and others. The creators also prepared an intriguing, interestingly presented science fiction story. Rayark Games is responsible for the creation and release of this title (known, among others, from the well-received action game Implosion: Never Lose Hope).
The action of the game takes place in the distant future, when people have long been extinct and the only conscious beings on Earth are robots. Humanity exists only in their memories - in a literal sense, thanks to the technology that enabled humans to copy and on their memories. Thanks to this, these beings have become a peculiar monument to human emotions and attitudes. Unfortunately, memory has its limitations and over time new memories replace old ones - that's why robots have learned to convert memories into music, which is written in a special space called Cytus.
The gameplay in Cytus is based on very simple rules. The player's task is to listen to the music and touch the screen according to the rhythm of the song (there are three different types of notes and we have to choose between them). The creators have prepared as many as nine levels of difficulty, thanks to which each player can adjust the game to their expectations. Progress made during the game is rewarded with points (thanks to which we can compare our results with other players), as well as subsequent fragments of the story, shown in the form of two-dimensional illustrations.
The game offers only single-player mode, but it has some limited web functionality - if we have a Facebook and connect it to the application, we will be able to share our results with our friends.
Graphic design of Cytus looks very good. The backgrounds and light effects accompanying the following songs are spectacular and nicely animated, while the two-dimensional illustrations, through which the story is presented, have been prepared with great attention to detail. The graphics adopt original manga style, in which you can find a lot of motifs typical for science fiction movies and games.
