A two-dimensional platformer in which we find ourselves in the world of Wicked World of Gaming, where we have to face the negative aspects of the video game industry. During the game we play as characters modelled on famous developers, including Tim Schafer from Double Fine Productions, Cliff Bleszinski from Boss Key Productions and Hideo Kojima from Kojima Productions.
Dawn of the Devs was the first game developed by Spanish studio Underdog. The core of the company consists of two people: Alfred Gonzalez-Barros and Alvaro Gonzalez, who previously worked on titles such as War Leaders: Clash of Nations and Young Justice: Legacy.
During the game, we find ourselves in an alternative world, Wicked World of Gaming, where we have to face the negative aspects of the video game industry that were brought to life by the sinister Chief Evil Overlord (C.E.O. for short). Our task is to defeat the enemy and we will do it by managing three developers transferred from the real world - Tom Schiffer from Two Headed Productions, Bliff Klozinski from Chieflock Productions and Hiro Komiya, the CEO of Komiya Productions.
Dawn of the Devs is a two-dimensional platform game, in general, not too far from the standards of the genre. The title is about traversing the subsequent levels, in which we encunter simple puzzles and opponents. We cope with adversities, using the powers of all three heroes, between which we can switch at any time. Bliff is equipped with an iconic saw rifle that eliminates enemies and obstacles; Tom - thanks to his bottomless pockets as an adventurer - can take objects with him, and the power of the adventurous cursor enables him to manipulate even distant elements of the environment; and Hiro is a stealth master who can draw enemies' attention and hide in a cardboard box to sneak past them unnoticed. Often, in order to solve one problem, you have to use the power of all characters: e.g. Tom open the gate through which Bliff will and knock down a huge ball on the head of a monster lured by Hiro.
In of visuals Dawn of the Devs presents a decent level. During the adventure, we visit several different worlds, including a pirate haven, a game cemetery or their temple, and the developers used a funny cartoonish graphic style.
Main characters of Dawn of the Devs are modeled on the famous developers - Tim Schafer from Double Fine, Cliff Bleszinski from Boss Key and Hideo Kojima from Kojima Productions. The first one is known from Grim Fandango Remastered and the original version of this adventure game, the second one worked for many years at Epic Games, where he was the co-creator of the Gears of War series, and the third one is the "father" of the Metal Gear series.
