Dissidia Final Fantasy NT for PS4 is a hybrid of action game and a fighting game. It enables the players to control characters who appeared in the main installments of Final Fantasy series. The game is an installment of the Dissidia Final Fantasy series that previously consisted of two entries, released in Fire Emblem Warriors.
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT for PS4 doesn’t offer an expanded, separate story mode that would be similar to the ones present in previous Dissidia games. It doesn’t mean however that the there’s no story or context for the battles. The console version of the game features completely new cutscenes and dialogues that weren’t available in the arcade release. The story was written by Kazushige Nojima, who previously worked on titles like Kingdom Hearts II.
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT for PS4 is a three-dimensional fighting game in which two teams consisting of three persons face each other. The battles take place on closed arenas and the action is presented from behind the back of the controlled character. The players can pick from more than twenty characters divided into four classes related to their skills and role in the battle (Vanguard, Assassin, Marksman, Specialist). Among the heroes there are protagonists and antagonists of main installments of Final Fantasy, including Noctis (Final Fantasy XV), Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII), Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII), Terra Branford (Final Fantasy VI) and Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII).
The game utilizes a rebuilt and expanded combat system of its predecessors. Each character is described with a few statistics. The most important ones are health points and bravery. The objective is to eliminate opponents by reducing their health points to zero. The characters can use various attacks, each one assigned to one of two categories. Abilities and moves from the first category are reducing enemy bravery and the ones from the second category are using the bravery points to deal physical damage. The more bravery points the player has, the stronger the attacks are.
The Summons – i.e. powerful beasts called in by the players – are an additional help during the fight. They provide various bonuses. After winning the battle players receive experience points and money that enables them to unlock new weapons, skills and skins for the characters.
The title features advanced multiplayer modes. A singleplayer mode is also available, it enables the player to face characters controlled by artificial intelligence and discover the story of the game.
Dissidia Final Fantasy NT for PS4 uses a three-dimensional engine that features high quality character models and spectacular special effects. The game runs at constant sixty frames per second.
