Dragon Quest Treasures is an action RPG, which is a spin-off of the cult Dragon Quest series. It was developed by TOSE studio, and it was released by Square Enix.
The main characters of Dragon Quest Treasures are Erik and Mia - siblings who live aboard their langskip and dream of going out into the world in search of treasures. One night luck smiles on them - the protagonists meet Porcus and Purrsula, i.e. mysterious creatures who take our charges to Draconia, which is a land full of monsters and treasures waiting to be discovered. Equipped with the so-called Dragon Daggers, which allow them to control the monsters they encounter, the heroes embark on their longed-for journey into the unknown. In doing so, they are not doomed to cross alone, as Porcus (who looks like a pig) and Purrsula (who looks and acts like a cat) serve as their spirit guides.
In Dragon Quest Treasures, we observe the action from a third-person perspective (TPP). We can take on the role of both Erik and Mia; the protagonists share all the progress they have made, so there is nothing to prevent us from switching between them.
In the game, we can explore a vast world, which consists of several islands with unique topography and climate. We can find here both icy wastelands, as well as picturesque valleys, huge canyons or towering volcanoes. While traversing them, we are primarily engaged in treasure hunting and taming the monsters living here. The latter are important for us, as each of them has unique abilities (such as flying or climbing rock walls), which we use to reach hard-to-reach places.
The abilities of our charges also allow us to find treasures; with their help we can easily find places where various valuables are buried. We must then transport the gold, gems and other valuables we find to the base to learn their value and specifics. Along the way, however, you need to be on guard, as Draconia is plagued by gangs who will not up an opportunity to get easy loot. Battles with them are dynamic, and we use both the skills of the heroes and the help of our monstrous companions in battle. Once we've made it safely to the base, we can get busy identifying the treasures we've collected.
As we progress, we develop not only the heroes, but also our command center; besides, more and more powerful monsters stand at our side. All this makes us, over time, become more and more seasoned treasure hunters who are not afraid of any challenges.
Dragon Quest Treasures features colorful, eye-pleasing graphics, made in a manga style.

Digital Trends: 3 / 5 by Giovanni Colantonio
Though its core treasure-hunting loop is tedious, there's a lot of charm worth digging up in Dragon Quest Treasures.

It’s this buildup of minor annoyances that makes it hard to recommend Dragon Quest Treasures. The experience is driven by charm and nostalgia, but if you don’t have an existing appreciation for the series, there isn’t much here that I could recommend over most other open-world role-playing games. It’s an experience that would greatly vary depending on the player; in other words, one player’s Dragon Quest trash is another player’s Dragon Quest Treasure.

Dragon Quest Treasures is a celebration of everything that makes this franchise a unique and special treat. Those willing to put up with a few slow hours to start their grand adventure will surely not be disappointed with the treasure that lies within, as the jewels and coins shine brightly within.
