An anniversary edition of the cult-classic FPS, prepared in cooperation between Nerve Software and Gearbox software to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release. The action of Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour takes place in 21st century Los Angeles. During the game, we assume the role of the iconic tough-guy, Duke, who has to face the alien invaders.
Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour for PC, PS4 and XONE is a refreshed version of the famous FPP shooter, Borderlands series. It is worth mentioning that the people responsible for the original game were also present during the development cycle.
During the game, we assume the role of the titular Duke – a real tough guy, who has to face the alien invaders. The action takes place in XXI century Los Angeles, but Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour for PC, PS4 and XONE contains a new, fifth chapter, prepared by Allen Blum III and Richard “Levelord” Gray – the authors of the original game. It gives access to eight additional levels, taking place in, among others, London, Amsterdam, or Paris.
When it comes to gameplay, Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour doesn’t differ much from the base game. It’s a classic, arcade FPS, in which we traverse consecutive levels, and kill anything that moves and doesn’t look human. The developers prepared an extended arsenal of unconventional weapons, such as: shotgun, laser, or rocket launcher. During the gameplay, we use a number of gadgets, including nightvision or jetpack; the new edition includes a new weapon, called Incinerator and a new type of enemy – Firefly. The gameplay is complemented by lavatory humor, Duke’s testosterone-dripping jokes, and occasional erotic elements.
Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour for PC, PS4 and XONE uses the original source code from Duke Nukem 3D, but the developers remade the visuals into real 3D. As a result, the game looks almost the same as the original, but at the same time, is somewhat improved and doesn’t scare off players used to modern technologies.
The game also includes new audio tracks, composed by Lee Jackson – the author of the original soundtrack, and additional dialogue recorded by Jon St. John – Duke’s voice.
