Earth Defence Force 3: Portable is an edition intended for the Japanese market. In January 2013 the game was published in the West under the title Earth Defence Force 2017.
Earth Defence Force 3: Portable for PS Vita console is a refreshed version of the title previously released on Xbox 360. The action of the game was set in the near future. In 2014, scientists discovered the presence of life forms in the Universe that could potentially threaten the inhabitants of the Earth. In secret, the organisation of an international armed force capable of defending itself against alien invasion began. Three years later a stranger, resembling a giant insect, attacked....
In the course of the game, the player directs the actions of an elite Japanese Defence Forces Unit (EDF) - Storm 1. His task is to fight against the cosmic robots and their combat machines, as well as to reach and destroy the nest hidden underground.
The struggle with aliens is shown from the third person's perspective (TPP). Heroes can use an arsenal of more than 150 weapons (from sniper rifles, rocket launchers to lasers) to wreak havoc in enemy ranks and surroundings. The creators have prepared more than 50 missions to be completed, and on some boards players have the ability to drive vehicles - helicopter, tank or battle robot. The game can be played in single player mode or in cooperation with up to four players.
Earth Defence Force 3: Portables are adapted to the technical capabilities of PlayStation Vita. Noteworthy are the spectacular scenes of battles with giant opponents and the news in the TV convention, film inserts, illustrating the most important feature events.
