Emergency 2017 for PC is another stand-alone expansion for 2014's the franchise since the late 1990s.
Mechanics
Emergency 2017 for PC does not stray away from the formula of the series and the player becomes the leader of a rescue team comprised of over twenty different police units, firefighters, paramedcs and technicians. In subsequent missions set in four German cities (Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg and Munich), the player's goal is to face the effects of different accidents, catastrophies, natural disasters or terrorist attacks. In order to do that, one mainly has to secure the area, find and help all the victims, as well as restore order to the place. For those unfamiliar with the previous iterations, the creators offer a functional tutorial, where one can get acquainted with the game’s mechanics.
In comparison to the previous edition, the creators introduced plenty of improvements and upgrades to the mechanics and eliminated the most common problems. The largest novelty introduced in Emergency 2017 however, is a completely new story campaign set in contemporary times, as well as a mini-campaign situated within the Middle Ages, which is a period popular for the so-called witch hunts. Apart from that, Emergency 2017 brings a new K9 unit, which is a dog capable of tracking those trapped under the debris or locating the bomb planted.
Game modes
Similar to the base Emergency 5 and Emergency 2016, which was released a year later, the player can enjoy the game individually or in the co-op multiplayer mode. In the latter case, the players have to deal with the effects of catastrophies collectively. However, it is also worth highlighting that since the previous edition, the creators eliminated common flaws which made it either impossible or more difficult to play via LAN.
Technical aspects
In of technicalities, Emergency 2017 for PC is based on the fifth, full-fledged installment in the series, which was released in 2014. Compared to the base game however, Emergency 2017 brings certain improvements and upgrades, such as polishing the visuals, adding special effects, unit animations, etc. As usual, the game also features a functional editor allowing the players to design their own missions and share them with other of the community.
