Europa Universalis is a real-time strategy war game which action takes place throughout 300 years of European history; from the times of great discoveries (1492) until Napoleonic wars (1792). In total, there are over 75 different European countries and duchies of that period to interact with. The player may choose one superpower of that time, such as Spain, England, Prussia, , Portugal or Poland, and depending on his decisions, the fate of his country and its neighbors will differ.
The player influences the growth of the military, economy and diplomacy. It is possible to build and command naval fleets, train infantry, discover unknown lands with help of conquistadors, and acquire new resources. Advanced diplomatic options allow not only for war, but also for forming alliances and trade treaties. Clever management of our country gives it a chance to become the strongest European superpower. The game contains over 2000 actual historical characters and events, which, in result, ensures that the game world is absorbing and believable.
