Eventide 2: The Sorcerer’s Mirror for iOS, PC and etc. is the sequel of a Slavic-themed adventure game entitled Eventide: Slavic Fable. Similarly to the first installment of the series, the production is the effect of cooperation between The House of Fables with the experienced HOPA developer, Artifex Mundi.
Plot
In Eventide 2, we follow Mary, the botanist from the original game. This time around, the heroine has to free her niece from the clutches of an immortal wizard, Twardowski, who kidnapped her during a mountain trip. The search of the relative takes Mary through blackwoods that teem with ancient power, steep mountain paths, and ruins that are full of imps, ghosts, magical animals, and other mythical creatures. To defeat the legendary wizard, the protagonist has to solve the mystery of a magical village and ask unusual allies, such as the famous 18th-century outlaw Janosik, for help.
Mechanics
Eventide 2 for iOS, PC and etc. is a production with mechanics typical to HOPA (Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure) adventure games. While playing, we visit 30 varied locations inspired by Slavic folklore, solve logic puzzles, and search numerous levels for hidden objects. Apart from items necessary to perform a quest, the game does not lack for collectibles in the form of herbs and cards with magical creatures. The production is characterized by being set in a reality of Slavic myths and legends. The partially non-linear plot, which is an unusual feature in the genre, is especially noteworthy. The decisions that the protagonist makes in the course of the game have an influence on the fate of different characters as well as the story’s conclusion.
Technical aspect
Quality-wise, Eventide 2: The Sorcerer’s Mirror for iOS, PC and etc. does not deviate from most HOPA productions from Artifex Mundi’s incredibly big portfolio. The game is characterized by detailed and colorful hand-drawn graphics enriched with simple animations. It is also worth mentioning that the story is narrated by Michael McConnohie who has been voicing characters in many animated movies and famous video games.
