Exile’s End for PC, PS4 and etc. is a two-dimensional action game, inspired by titles from Commodore 64 and Amiga consoles, such as Another World. It has been created by a one-man studio Magnetic Realms of Matt Fielding in cooperation with many experienced developers from Japan that gave the game a unique vibe.
Exile’s End story isn’t complicated – it’s using typical themes of science fiction genre. When the with a colony belonging to a mega-corporation, Ravenwood, is lost, a group of mercenaries (including the protagonist) is sent to investigate the case and find the lost son of Ravenwood’s president. Unfortunately, their ship crashes, with our character miraculously surviving. When he reaches the abandoned colony, he realizes that his paymasters were conducting suspicious experiments.
Exile’s End for PC, PS4 and etc. combines features of platformer and action game. We explore the planet’s surface, fight with enemies using various guns, grenades etc. Each stage has a boss waiting at the end of it.
The story campaign can be finished within a few hours, so developers prepared another mode. In survival, we have to clear levels with rising difficulty, while we power-up our character by buying equipment and weapon upgrades between stages.
Exile’s End presents players with two-dimensional visuals of high quality, made by Japanese veterans who worked on classic hits of 8 and 16-bit era, like Secret of Mana. The soundtrack has been composed by Keiji Yamagishi, a legendary composer known from Ninja Gaiden, Tecmo Bowl and Captain Tsubasa.

Game Ratings for Exile's End Video Game.
Twinfinite: 3.5 / 5 by Chaz Miller
If you’re into the retro thing or enjoy a good, not-too-lengthy Metroidvania, Exile’s End may be just the ticket. I put in about eight hours on my run, with some allowances for getting lost a time or two in the game’s pretty open and directionless approach.
COGconnected: 65 / 100 by Doug Mercer
… the complete care and dedication that went into recreating an excellent replica from the 8-16 bit era certainly helps offset the frustration.

For the price of entry and the type of game Exiles End is worth a look from fans of the genre. It’s got decent atmosphere, controls fairly well, and provides some fun exploration and fighting. It’s just not nearly as good as those that came before it, take it or leave it. I want to like the game more than I do, but getting endlessly lost, questioning my progression, and the weak start left me with a bitter taste in my mouth.
